Koumy Jean

Native country : Togo

For several decades, Jean Koumy (° 1961) has been evolving at a crossroads, a highly prized space, the Cobra movement, pop art and impressionism. Smile is the common thread in this eclectic mix of multiple sources of inspiration. Pure and direct expressions of gratitude, love and joie de vivre are found in Koumy's sculptures and canvases so as not to underestimate any facet of positivism. The compositions of organic forms dear to Koumy use a visual language of great clarity that touches the imagination of any observer. At eleven already, he produced a first series of idiosyncratic "Koumy" models where rhythm, contrast and an explosion of colors compete for the attention of the viewer. Many years later, he still populates his paintings of fantastic animals, eyes, natural elements, families and surfaces of colors and simple, authentic characters, who encompass a world apprehended in depth. In addition, Koumy is located at the interface between the top and the bottom, art and sculptures. He opened his Sculpture Workshop in Lomé, where he produced his works "Treasure of Koumy", his talking statues. Exhibitions Koumy 1994. Art Forum. Antwerp. Belgium 1999. Lineart. Ghent. Belgium 2000.
